Weights are estimates. Together, the ingredients weigh about 1.06 kg before cooking, which is about 105 g per serving.

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160 °C) (163°C (325 °F)). Grease the cake pan and line it with parchment paper.

  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the room-temperature butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the neutral oil and continue mixing until the mixture is very pale and fluffy.

  4. Add the room-temperature eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

  5. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

  6. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt if using unsalted butter.

  7. Add the sifted dry ingredients in two additions, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.

  8. Mix gently until the batter is smooth and well combined; avoid overmixing.

  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

  10. Bake on the middle rack at 300–325°F (150–160 °C) (150–163°C (300–325 °F)) until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. The source does not specify a baking duration.

  11. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10–15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Vanilla extract is used in the procedure but omitted from the ingredient list, so its amount is not specified. The directions first call for preheating to 325°F and later give a baking range of 300–325°F; no pan size or bake time is provided. Salt is listed for use only if substituting unsalted butter for the salted butter.
