Ingredients
- 4 brioche or challah bread (thick slices)
- 4 large eggs
- 0.5 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
- 0.5 tsp ground allspice
- butter (for cooking)
- powdered sugar (optional topping)
- maple syrup (optional topping)
- fresh berries (optional topping)
- whipped cream (optional topping)
Steps
- 1
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract, brown sugar, nutmeg, and allspice until smooth.
- 2
Dip each slice of brioche or challah bread into the mixture, coating both sides.
- 3
Let the bread soak for about 15β20 seconds per side so it absorbs the custard without falling apart.
- 4
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a little butter.
- 5
Place the soaked bread onto the hot skillet and cook for 3β4 minutes per side, or until golden brown with a lightly crisp exterior.
- 6
Serve warm with powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, or your favorite toppings.
Notes
Ensure the bread is thick-cut to prevent it from becoming too soggy during the soaking process.
