- 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1 broccoli (head, cut into florets)
- 1 onion (small, chopped)
- 2 bell pepper (chopped (Green & Red))
- 4 garlic (cloves, minced)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
- salt (to taste)
- black pepper (to taste)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning (optional, for a little kick)
- 0.5 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp ground ginger (or 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger)
- 1 cup beef broth (or chicken broth)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water (cold, for slurry)
- steamed white rice (for serving)
- sesame seeds (optional garnish)
- green onions (optional garnish, chopped)
Steps
- 1
Season the thinly sliced beef and the peeled shrimp with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and Cajun seasoning (if using).
- 2
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- 3
Add the seasoned beef to the skillet and sear for 2β3 minutes per side until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- 4
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the same skillet.
- 5
Add the shrimp and cook for 1β2 minutes per side, just until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp and set aside with the beef.
- 6
Add the chopped onion, bell peppers, broccoli florets, and minced garlic to the skillet.
- 7
Stir-fry the vegetables for 4β5 minutes until the broccoli is crisp-tender and the peppers have softened slightly.
- 8
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ginger, and broth until well combined.
- 9
In a small separate container, mix the cornstarch with the cold water to create a smooth slurry.
- 10
Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the vegetables and bring it to a simmer.
- 11
Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1β2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened and become glossy.
- 12
Return the cooked beef and shrimp to the skillet.
- 13
Toss everything together until the meat, seafood, and vegetables are evenly coated in the sauce and heated through.
- 14
Serve immediately over fluffy steamed white rice and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
Notes
For the best results, ensure your skillet or wok is very hot before adding the meat to get a good sear. You can substitute the beef broth for chicken or vegetable broth if preferred. If using fresh ginger, use 1 tablespoon of grated ginger instead of the 1 teaspoon of ground ginger.
