Ingredients
- 100 ml egg whites (from approximately 3 large eggs)
- 35 g matured 30+ cheese (finely grated (semi-mature 30+ cheese))
- 15 g all-purpose flour (must be sifted)
- 40 g onion (sliced into very thin half-moons)
- seasonings (pepper, garlic powder, paprika powder, rosemary, and salt to taste)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 180-190°C (350-375°F).
- 2
In a completely grease-free bowl, beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
- 3
Add the seasonings (pepper, garlic powder, paprika, rosemary, and salt) to the egg whites and gently fold them in with a spatula.
- 4
Gently fold the finely grated cheese into the mixture using a spatula.
- 5
Sift the 15 grams of flour over the mixture; do not skip sifting or the texture will be compromised.
- 6
Add the thin onion rings to the bowl and very carefully fold everything together with a spatula, being cautious not to deflate the egg whites.
- 7
Place a piece of parchment paper on an oven rack or baking sheet and divide the batter into 5 equal mounds.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 13 to 16 minutes. Check them continuously after the 13-minute mark as oven temperatures vary.
- 9
Serve warm, or let them cool completely to slice them open and use them as sandwich buns.
Notes
Ensure the mixing bowl is perfectly clean and grease-free, otherwise the egg whites will not whip properly. Using 30+ cheese helps keep the calorie count low while providing high protein.
