Ingredients
- 2 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
- 2 tbsp chicken bouillon powder
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 4 cup water (for cooking)
- 1 tbsp butter or olive oil (optional, for cooking)
Steps
- 1
In a clean quart-sized mason jar, add 2 cups of long-grain white rice.
- 2
Add 2 tablespoons of chicken bouillon powder, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the jar.
- 3
Secure the lid on the jar and shake vigorously until the spices are evenly distributed throughout the rice.
- 4
For long-term storage, vacuum seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark pantry.
- 5
To cook the rice, bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
- 6
Add the entire contents of the jar to the boiling water, along with 1 tablespoon of butter or olive oil if desired.
- 7
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until the water is fully absorbed and the rice is tender.
- 8
Remove from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork and serving.
Notes
This recipe omits saffron to remain budget-friendly while still achieving a classic yellow color from the turmeric. For a vegan version, substitute vegetable bouillon for the chicken bouillon.
