Ingredients
- 1 cup long grain white rice (uncooked)
- 0.5 cup freeze-dried broccoli
- 0.25 cup cheddar cheese powder
- 1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 2 cup water (for cooking)
- 1 tbsp butter (for cooking)
Steps
- 1
In a clean quart-sized mason jar, add 1 cup of long grain white rice.
- 2
Add 1/2 cup of freeze-dried broccoli florets to the jar.
- 3
Add 1/4 cup of cheddar cheese powder, 1 tablespoon of chicken bouillon powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- 4
Seal the jar with a lid and ring, then shake well to combine all ingredients thoroughly. For long-term storage, you can vacuum seal the jar.
- 5
To prepare the rice: In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of butter to a boil.
- 6
Stir in the entire contents of the rice mix jar.
- 7
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the liquid is fully absorbed and the rice is tender.
- 8
Remove from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork and serving.
Notes
For best results, use freeze-dried broccoli rather than dehydrated, as it rehydrates faster and maintains better texture. If you don't have a vacuum sealer, the mix will still stay fresh in a cool, dry pantry for several months.
