Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 0.25 cup butter (melted)
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- 3 cup bread flour (3 to 3 1/4 cups)
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp dried oregano
- 0.5 tsp dried basil
- 0.5 tsp dried parsley
- 0.25 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.75 cup butter (softened)
- 9 garlic cloves (minced; 8-10 cloves)
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 0.25 tsp dried basil
- 0.25 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp italian seasoning
- 8 oz pepper jack cheese (shredded)
- 4 oz muenster cheese (shredded)
- avocado oil (for oiling hands and bowl)
Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the warm water (110°F), active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy. You can place plastic wrap over the top to trap the heat.
- 2
Add the room temperature egg and melted butter to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
- 3
Add about 2 cups of bread flour along with the garlic powder, dried oregano, dried basil, dried parsley, onion powder, and salt. Mix until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- 4
Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough comes together and feels tacky but not sticky.
- 5
Transfer the dough to a clean counter and knead, adding only small amounts of flour if needed.
- 6
Once the dough no longer sticks to your hands, lightly oil your hands (avocado oil works well) and continue kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 7
Place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, which should take about an hour.
- 8
While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, basil, and oregano. Reserve about 3 tablespoons of this mixture to brush on top of the rolls after baking.
- 9
Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- 10
Spread the garlic butter filling evenly over the surface of the dough rectangle and sprinkle with the shredded pepper jack and muenster cheeses.
- 11
Cut the dough into strips and roll each strip up. Place the rolls in a lined baking dish.
- 12
Cover the dish loosely and let the rolls rise again for 15–20 minutes.
- 13
Bake the rolls at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- 14
While the rolls are still warm, brush the tops with the reserved 3 tablespoons of garlic butter.
Notes
The amount of rolls you put in a pan will make the bake time vary. You can use avocado oil to oil your hands and the bowl to prevent sticking.
