Ingredients
- 1 loaf French or Italian bread
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter (for the alfredo sauce)
- 5 garlic (cloves, minced)
- 2 boneless skinless chicken breast
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 0.75 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for the alfredo sauce)
- 1.25 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided: 1/4 cup for sauce, 1 cup for topping)
- 2 tsp garlic powder (for the alfredo sauce)
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp red chili flakes
- salt and black pepper (to taste)
- fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
- 1 stick unsalted butter (softened, for garlic butter)
- 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese (for garlic butter)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped, for garlic butter)
- 2 tsp garlic paste (for garlic butter)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (for garlic butter)
- salt and pepper (to taste, for garlic butter)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
Slice the French or Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise.
- 3
In a small bowl, prepare the garlic butter by mixing together 1 stick of softened butter, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, 2 teaspoons garlic paste, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir until well combined.
- 4
Brush the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of both halves of the bread.
- 5
Toast the bread in the oven for 5–7 minutes until it is slightly golden. This step is optional but recommended for texture.
- 6
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, sear the chicken breasts for 5-8 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F). Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
- 7
In the same pan used for the chicken, add 3 tablespoons of butter and the 5 cloves of minced garlic. Cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- 8
Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the mixture is smooth.
- 9
Add 1/4 cup of the shredded mozzarella and 3/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese to the sauce. Stir constantly until the cheeses are melted and the sauce is creamy.
- 10
Season the Alfredo sauce with 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 2 teaspoons oregano, 1 teaspoon basil, 1 teaspoon red pepper chili flakes, and salt and pepper to taste.
- 11
Slice the cooked chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces or strips.
- 12
Spoon a layer of the Alfredo sauce evenly over each toasted bread half.
- 13
Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
- 14
Arrange the sliced chicken on top of the cheese, then drizzle with any remaining Alfredo sauce.
- 15
Return the bread to the oven and bake for 15-25 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted, bubbly, and slightly browned.
- 16
Garnish with additional chopped fresh parsley.
- 17
Slice the bread into individual portions and serve warm.
Notes
You can use one long, large loaf or two smaller loaves. For the best flavor, do not clean the pan after searing the chicken; the browned bits (fond) will add depth to the Alfredo sauce.
