Ingredients
- 16 oz firm tofu (Pressed for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into chunks.)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp potato starch
- 3 tbsp water (Used to make the marinade.)
- salt or additional seasonings (Optional, to taste.)
Steps
- 1
Place the firm tofu between towels or in a tofu press and press for 15 minutes to remove some of its moisture. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized chunks.
- 2
In a bowl, whisk together the baking soda, potato starch, and water until combined. Add salt or other seasonings if desired.
- 3
Add the tofu chunks to the baking soda mixture and gently toss to coat. Marinate for 15 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through so the coating is distributed evenly.
- 4
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the tofu in the basket in a single layer, leaving space between pieces for air circulation. No oil is needed.
- 5
Air-fry the tofu at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes, or until the exterior is crisp and golden while the center remains soft and silky. Serve immediately.
Notes
The tofu can be used in stir-fries or served as a standalone protein. Avoid overcrowding the air-fryer basket so the exterior crisps properly.
