Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (at room temperature)
  • 1.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 110 g semi-sweet chocolate chips (or chocolate chunks)
  • 110 g milk chocolate chips

Steps

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine the melted butter with the white sugar and brown sugar. Mix well until no sugar lumps remain.

  2. 2

Add the salt, vanilla extract, and egg. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and slightly lighter in color.

  3. 3

Sift the flour and baking soda over the wet mixture.

  4. 4

Fold in the dry ingredients using a spatula, being careful not to overmix; stop as soon as you see no more traces of flour.

  5. 5

Fold in the semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the dough.

  6. 6

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes (this helps the flavors concentrate and prevents the cookies from spreading too much).

  7. 7

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  8. 8

Form dough balls of approximately 2 tablespoons each and place them on the tray, leaving at least 5 cm of space between them.

  9. 9

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the center still looks slightly soft.

  10. 10

Let the cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality hand-chopped chocolate instead of just chips. If you prefer saltier cookies, sprinkle a little flaky sea salt immediately after taking them out of the oven.
