Ingredients
- 1 loaf sourdough bread (Thickly sliced; amount of loaf used depends on slice size. The garlic butter and cream cheese spreads are each enough for 4–5 sandwiches.)
- 1 stick salted butter (Softened; for garlic butter spread)
- 0.75 tsp garlic powder (For garlic butter spread)
- 0.25 cup mild cheddar cheese (Shredded; for garlic butter spread)
- 1 slice provolone cheese
- 1 slice Colby Jack cheese
- 0.3333 cup cream cheese (Softened; cream cheese spread makes enough for 4–5 sandwiches)
- 1.5 tbsp mayonnaise (For cream cheese spread)
- 0.25 tsp garlic powder (For cream cheese spread)
- 0.125 tsp black pepper (For cream cheese spread)
- 0.5 tsp Italian seasoning (For cream cheese spread)
- 0.25 tsp red pepper flakes (For cream cheese spread)
- 1 slice Havarti cheese
- 2 tbsp butter (For melting in the skillet; use some of this amount to cook each sandwich as needed)
Steps
- 1
Thickly slice the sourdough bread. Use two slices for the sandwich.
- 2
Mix the softened salted butter with ¾ teaspoon garlic powder and the shredded mild cheddar. Spread the garlic-butter mixture over the outer side of each bread slice.
- 3
Turn the slices over. On one slice, layer the provolone first, then the Colby Jack.
- 4
Mix the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes until combined.
- 5
Spread about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture over the Colby Jack. Add the Havarti slice, then top with the second bread slice, garlic-butter side facing outward.
- 6
Melt some of the 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sandwich, then reduce the heat to low.
- 7
Cover the skillet with a lid and cook until the bottom is crisp and golden and the cheese has begun to melt through; the source gives no exact cooking time.
- 8
Flip the sandwich and cook covered until the other side is crisp and golden and the cheese is melted.
- 9
Serve immediately.
Notes
The recipe states that the garlic butter and cream cheese spreads each make enough for 4–5 sandwiches, while the cheese slices and final butter are listed as single-sandwich amounts. It does not specify exact bread quantity per sandwich, the amount of butter to use in the skillet, or cooking duration; make additional sandwiches with the remaining spreads and adjust bread and cheese accordingly.
