Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (226 g (1 cup) plus 2 tbsp total; brown all of it. Use ½ cup for the batter, ½ cup for the butter swim, and 2 tbsp for the glaze.)
  • 3 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Pumpkin pie spice
  • 0.5 cup Pumpkin purée
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 0.25 cup Sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 oz Cream cheese (Softened.)

Steps

  1. 1

Brown all the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and nutty-smelling. Let it cool until warm or room temperature. Reserve ½ cup for the biscuit batter, ½ cup for the butter swim, and 2 tablespoons for the glaze.

  2. 2

Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Pour the ½ cup portion of browned butter reserved for the butter swim into an 8-by-8-inch baking dish. Put the dish in the oven as it preheats to warm the butter; remove it once the butter is melted and warm.

  3. 3

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice until evenly combined.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the pumpkin purée, buttermilk, and ½ cup cooled browned butter reserved for the batter.

  5. 5

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently mix just until combined; do not overmix.

  6. 6

Carefully spoon the dough into the warm browned butter in the baking dish. Gently spread it evenly to the edges.

  7. 7

Cut the dough into 9 squares without separating the biscuits.

  8. 8

Bake at 425°F (220°C) until golden and cooked through in the center. In a glass pan, bake 25–30 minutes, aiming for about 28 minutes. In a metal pan, bake 20–25 minutes and begin checking around 20 minutes; if using a dark metal pan, start checking a few minutes earlier.

  9. 9

Mix the sweetened condensed milk, 2 tablespoons melted browned butter, and softened cream cheese until smooth.

  10. 10

Drizzle the glaze over the warm biscuits.
