Ingredients
- 0.75 cup unsalted butter (browned)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 0.5 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 eggs (large, room temperature)
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- 2
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the butter foams, smells nutty, and develops brown specks at the bottom. Immediately remove from heat to prevent burning.
- 3
In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Whisk until well combined.
- 4
Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Whisk vigorously for 1-2 minutes until the mixture becomes pale and slightly thickened; this helps create the crinkle top.
- 5
Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 6
Fold in the chocolate chips.
- 7
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- 8
Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- 9
Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing to ensure a fudgy texture.
Notes
For the best texture, use high-quality cocoa powder and don't overbake. The brownies will continue to set as they cool.
