Weights are estimates. Together, the ingredients weigh about 1.78 kg before cooking, which is about 295 g per serving.

Steps

  1. Add the chicken breast, diced sweet onion, shredded carrots, chicken rub, garlic powder, onion powder, chicken bouillon powder, paprika, black pepper, and chicken broth to the slow cooker.

  2. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or on HIGH for 2–3 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

  3. Remove the cooked chicken from the slow cooker. Shred or chop it, then return it to the slow cooker.

  4. Add the orzo, broccoli, heavy cream, and freshly shredded cheddar to the slow cooker, stirring them into the chicken and cooking liquid.

  5. Cover and cook on HIGH for about 30 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the orzo is tender. Watch it closely toward the end because the orzo can absorb liquid quickly.

  6. Taste the finished dish before adding salt. Add salt only if needed, then serve with additional shredded cheddar on top if desired.

Notes

The source does not specify the exact amount of additional cheddar used for topping. Check the slow cooker toward the end of the final cooking period because the orzo absorbs liquid quickly. Use caution when seasoning: both the chicken bouillon and chicken rub contain salt.
