Ingredients
- 10 Sausages (cooked)
- 10 Mozzarella cheese (cut into blocks or sticks)
- 1 Egg
- 200 ml Milk (approx. 1 cup)
- 210 g All-purpose flour (approx. 1.5 cups)
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- Salt (to taste)
- Cornflakes or Panko breadcrumbs (for coating)
- 400 ml Vegetable oil (for frying; up to 500ml)
Steps
- 1
Prepare the skewers by threading a piece of cooked sausage and a piece of mozzarella cheese onto each stick.
- 2
In a mixing bowl, combine the egg, milk, flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until the batter is smooth and very thick.
- 3
Pour the batter into a tall glass or jar to make dipping easier.
- 4
Dip each skewer into the batter, rotating to ensure the sausage and cheese are completely and evenly coated.
- 5
Roll the battered corn dog in crushed cornflakes or panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the coating adheres.
- 6
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan to approximately 350°F (175°C).
- 7
Fry the corn dogs in the hot oil, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- 8
Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
Ensure the batter is thick enough to cling to the cheese and sausage without dripping off immediately. If using cornflakes, crush them slightly for better coverage.
