Ingredients

  • 500 g beef (sirloin or tender cuts, cut into bite-sized cubes)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp butter (for the beef)
  • 5.5 garlic (minced (5-6 cloves))
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper (for the beef)
  • 0.5 tsp salt (adjust to taste, for the beef)
  • 0.5 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • fresh parsley (for garnish)
  • 4 potato (medium, peeled and chopped)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for the potatoes)
  • 0.5 cup milk or cream
  • 0.5 tsp salt (for the potatoes)
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper (for the potatoes)
  • 0.25 cup cream cheese or cheddar cheese (optional for extra richness)

Steps

  1. 1

Boil potatoes in salted water for 12–15 minutes until soft.

  2. 2

    Drain the potatoes well.

  3. 3

Mash the potatoes while hot until smooth.

  4. 4

Add the butter, milk or cream, salt, pepper, and optional cheese or cream cheese to the potatoes.

  5. 5

Mash until fluffy and creamy, being careful not to overwork them into a gluey texture.

  6. 6

Pat the beef cubes dry with paper towels to ensure proper browning.

  7. 7

Season the beef with salt, pepper, and paprika.

  8. 8

Heat olive oil in a hot pan.

  9. 9

Add the beef in a single layer, ensuring you don’t overcrowd the pan.

  10. 10

Sear for 2–3 minutes per side until a caramelized crust forms and the beef is browned.

  11. 11

Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

  12. 12

Lower the heat to medium and add butter to the same pan.

  13. 13

Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.

  14. 14

    Add chili flakes if using.

  15. 15

Return the beef to the pan and toss in the garlic butter until fully coated.

  16. 16

Cook for 1–2 minutes so the flavors absorb.

  17. 17

Finish with fresh parsley and serve over the mashed potatoes.

Notes

For the best crust, ensure the beef is patted very dry before seasoning and searing. Avoid overcrowding the pan to prevent the meat from steaming.
