Ingredients
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk (1 can)
- 12 oz evaporated milk (1 can)
- 6 eggs (large)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened, 1 package)
- 0.33333334326744 cup 2% milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup white sugar
Steps
- 1
Gather all ingredients. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- 2
Place the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, cream cheese, milk, and vanilla extract in a blender; blend until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
- 3
Place the sugar in an even layer in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the edges begin to brown, about 1 minute.
- 4
Drag the sugar toward the center with a spatula once the edges begin to brown. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the caramel has an even golden color, 4 to 5 minutes.
- 5
Meanwhile, pour 1 inch of boiling water into a large oven-safe pot or baking dish to prepare a water bath (bain-marie).
- 6
Pour the caramel into a 9-inch flan mold or baking pan; swirl the mold so the caramel goes up about 1 inch on the sides.
- 7
Pour the condensed milk mixture over the caramel in the mold. Place the mold inside the water bath.
- 8
Place the flan and the water bath in the preheated oven; bake until a moist table knife inserted in the center comes out clean, between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
- 9
Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- 10
Chill the flan in the refrigerator until firm, 2 to 3 hours. Invert onto a serving plate so the caramel is on top.
Notes
It is recommended to serve it well-chilled for the best flavor experience. You will need a flan mold (or a standard tube pan) and a container for the water bath that is large enough to accommodate the mold comfortably.
