Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken thighs
  • 2 eggs
  • salt (1 pinch)
  • 0.5 cup tempura mix (The source names Fire & Smoke Society tempura mix; alternatively use 1/4 cup flour and 1/4 cup cornstarch.)
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic (Minced.)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (For the sauce.)
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup water (Listed for the rice.)
  • green onion (Sliced; separate the white and green parts.)
  • oil (For frying.)

Steps

  1. 1

Prepare the chicken by combining the chicken thighs, eggs, and a pinch of salt.

  2. 2

Add the tempura mix and mix it with the chicken mixture. The source says that flour and cornstarch can be used instead of the tempura mix.

  3. 3

Make the sauce by combining the ketchup, rice vinegar, brown sugar, honey, minced garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame seeds. Mix until combined.

  4. 4

Heat oil for frying. Fry the coated chicken at about 340°F for approximately 6 minutes.

  5. 5

Remove the chicken from the oil and let it drain or dry for a few minutes.

  6. 6

Return the chicken to the hot oil and fry for about 2 more minutes for maximum crispiness.

  7. 7

Slice the green onion and separate the white and green parts.

  8. 8

Add the sliced green onion whites to a pan.

  9. 9

Add the prepared sauce to the pan with the green onion whites.

  10. 10

Add all of the fried chicken to the pan and toss or cook it with the sauce until coated.

  11. 11

Top the sesame chicken with the sliced green onion greens and serve with rice prepared from the listed rice and water.

Notes

The transcript does not specify how to cook the rice, the amount or type of frying oil, or how long to cook the sauce after adding the chicken. Use the listed rice and water according to your usual rice-cooking method.
