Ingredients
- 1 Pita bread (Large; whole-wheat pita may be used. Fresh, day-old, pocket, or flat pita works.)
- 1 tsp Oil (Olive or avocado oil; brush, spray, or toss the pita wedges with it.)
- Salt (To taste.)
- Preferred seasoning (Optional; the source suggests garlic powder, dried oregano, Italian seasoning, black pepper, or zaatar.)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the air fryer to 160°C (320°F) for 5 minutes.
- 2
If using pita pockets, leave them intact for thicker, sturdier chips, or carefully separate the two layers for thinner, crispier chips.
- 3
Cut the pita into evenly sized wedges so the pieces cook at a similar rate.
- 4
Lightly brush, spray, or toss the pita wedges with oil. Add salt and any preferred seasoning.
- 5
Arrange the pita wedges in a mostly single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if needed rather than crowding the basket.
- 6
Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes. Shake the basket or turn the chips after about 4 minutes. Start checking thin pita chips at 6 minutes, and remove smaller pieces as they brown early.
- 7
Transfer the chips to a plate or wire rack and let them cool completely before serving or storing. They become crisper as they cool.
Notes
Use only a light coating of oil; too much can make the chips feel heavy. Separated pita layers cook faster than intact pockets. Store completely cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. To refresh chips that have lost their crunch, air fry at 150°C (300°F) for 1 to 2 minutes, checking frequently. The source mentions optional seasonings but does not give their quantities.
