Ingredients
- 3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk (warm)
- 0.5 cup water
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 0.25 cup brown sugar (for the dough)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for the coating)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar (for the coating)
- 1.5 tsp cinnamon
- 0.25 cup baking soda (for boiling water)
- 2 cup water (for boiling)
- butter (melted, for brushing)
Steps
- 1
In a bowl, add in warm milk, brown sugar, and yeast. Mix until well combined and let it sit for 9-10 minutes to bloom.
- 2
In a separate bowl, add in the flour and the bloomed yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured work surface for 9-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough ball into a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
- 5
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 6
Separate the dough into even dough balls (should make around 8-10) and let them rest for 5 minutes.
- 7
Roll out each ball to your desired size and length, then twist and form into a pretzel shape.
- 8
In a large pan on medium-high heat, add two cups of water and 1/4 cup baking soda. Mix and wait until it comes to a boiling point.
- 9
Place the pretzels in the pan and let them boil for 20-30 seconds.
- 10
Place the boiled pretzels on a baking sheet and put them in the preheated oven for 8-9 minutes or until golden brown.
- 11
Take the pretzels out of the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter.
- 12
Combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Cover the buttered pretzels with the cinnamon sugar mixture and enjoy!
Notes
The recipe makes approximately 8-10 pretzels. Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
