Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • garlic cloves (8-10 cloves)
  • 0.5 cup olive oil (for roasting the garlic)
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes (for the garlic butter)
  • salt (to taste)
  • 0.5 cup fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 1 baguette (sliced in half lengthwise)
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley (chopped; used in the garlic mixture and for garnish)
  • 0.5 cup honey (for the hot honey)
  • 1 tbsp red chili flakes (for the hot honey)
  • 2 tbsp hot sauce or apple cider vinegar (optional; use one or the other)

Steps

  1. 1

Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

Place the garlic cloves and 1/2 cup olive oil in an oven-safe bowl.

  3. 3

Bake the garlic for 30-35 minutes, or until the cloves are soft.

  4. 4

In another bowl, combine the softened butter, baked garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon red chili flakes, salt to taste, and chopped parsley.

  5. 5

Mix the butter mixture until it is smooth and well combined.

  6. 6

Slice the baguette in half lengthwise.

  7. 7

Spread a generous amount of the garlic mixture over the cut side of each baguette half.

  8. 8

Top the baguette halves with the fresh mozzarella cheese.

  9. 9

Bake both halves until toasty, about 15-20 minutes.

  10. 10

Garnish the baked bread with parsley.

  11. 11

For the hot honey, place the honey and 1 tablespoon red chili flakes in a small pot or pan over medium heat.

  12. 12

Gently heat the honey until small bubbles form along the edges of the pan, then remove the pan from the heat.

  13. 13

Let the honey infuse for 5 minutes.

  14. 14

If using hot sauce or apple cider vinegar, stir it into the honey. Mix well and serve with the garlic bread.

Notes

The source does not specify whether the hot honey is drizzled over the bread or served alongside it; serve it according to preference. The hot sauce or apple cider vinegar is optional.
