Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb sirloin steak (cut into 1 to 2-inch pieces)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion (medium, sliced into thick wedges)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup (or more to taste)
  • 2 garlic (cloves, minced)
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 cup beef bone broth
  • 8 oz Bella mushrooms (halved; also known as cremini)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Parsley (for garnish)

Steps

  1. 1

Cut the sirloin steak into 1 to 2-inch pieces.

  2. 2

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

Quickly sear the steak bites for 1 to 2 minutes per side until browned.

  4. 4

Place the sliced onion wedges on the bottom of a slow cooker.

  5. 5

Add the seared steak bites on top of the onions.

  6. 6

In a small bowl, whisk together the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, maple syrup, minced garlic, and black pepper.

  7. 7

Pour the sauce mixture over the steak and onions in the slow cooker.

  8. 8

Pour in the beef bone broth.

  9. 9

Cover and cook on Low for a total of 3 hours.

  10. 10

At the 1.5-hour mark, add the halved mushrooms to the slow cooker.

  11. 11

15 minutes before the 3-hour mark, remove 2 tablespoons of the cooking liquid from the crockpot and place it in a small bowl.

  12. 12

Whisk the cornstarch into the removed broth until smooth, then pour the mixture back into the crockpot.

  13. 13

Continue to cook for the remaining 15 minutes until the sauce has thickened.

  14. 14

Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or maple syrup as needed.

  15. 15

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve.

Notes

Serve over cooked rice if desired. The mushrooms used are cremini (also labeled as baby Bella).
