Ingredients

  • 0.25 White onion (A piece for flavoring the cooking water)
  • 1 tallo Celery (For flavoring the cooking water)
  • 3 dientes Garlic (For flavoring the cooking water)
  • Salt for the cooking water (To taste)
  • 2 lb Peeled shrimp (Some chopped and some left whole)
  • 3 Tomatoes (Seeded and chopped)
  • 0.5 Red onion (Chopped)
  • 2 Cucumbers (Chopped)
  • Cilantro (Chopped, to taste; approximately 15 g)
  • Jalapeño pepper (Chopped, to taste; optional. Approximately 1 medium pepper)
  • 1 Avocado (Chopped)
  • 2 cup Vegetable juice (The recipe uses vegetable juice)
  • 1 cup Unsweetened orange juice (No added sugar)
  • 0.333 cup Ketchup (Approximately one-third of a cup)
  • Seasoning sauce (To taste; approximately 1 tbsp)
  • Worcestershire sauce (To taste; approximately 1 tbsp)
  • 6 Limes (Squeezed; use the juice)
  • Salt (To taste)
  • Black pepper (To taste)

Steps

  1. 1

Fill a pot with enough water to cover the shrimp. Add a piece of onion, one celery stalk, the three garlic cloves, and salt to taste. Bring the water to a boil and let the aromatics boil until the liquid develops a pleasant aroma and flavor, approximately 5 minutes.

  2. 2

Add the shrimp to the boiling water. Cook them for only 3 minutes, until they are pink, opaque, and firm; do not overcook them, or they will become tough and rubbery.

  3. 3

Remove the shrimp from the water and drain them. Cut some into small pieces and leave the rest whole, as shown in the recipe. Let them cool for a few minutes before mixing them with the vegetables.

  4. 4

Chop the tomatoes and remove their seeds to prevent the cocktail from becoming too watery.

  5. 5

Chop the half onion, the two cucumbers, the cilantro, and the jalapeño to taste. If you prefer a less spicy cocktail, omit the jalapeño.

  6. 6

Chop the avocado and set it aside carefully so it does not become too mashed.

  7. 7

In a bowl, combine the vegetable juice, unsweetened orange juice, and ketchup.

  8. 8

Add the seasoning sauce, Worcestershire sauce, the juice of the six limes, salt, and pepper to taste.

  9. 9

Mix the sauce thoroughly until the ketchup is completely incorporated. Taste and adjust the salt, pepper, or seasonings if you think it needs more flavor.

  10. 10

Place the chopped and whole shrimp, tomatoes, red onion, cucumbers, cilantro, jalapeño, and avocado in a large bowl.

  11. 11

Pour the vegetable and orange juice sauce over the ingredients. Gently fold everything together to distribute the sauce without mashing the avocado or breaking up the shrimp too much.

  12. 12

Serve the cocktail immediately in glasses or goblets. If desired, chill it briefly before serving for a more refreshing result.

Notes

The amounts of seasoning sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, cilantro, and jalapeño should be adjusted to taste, as the source does not provide exact measurements. Keep the cocktail refrigerated and preferably consume it the same day. The shrimp should be cooked briefly to prevent them from becoming rubbery.
