Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour (If unavailable, use 1 cup all-purpose flour plus 1 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt)
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
- poppy seeds (for topping; or use everything bagel seasoning)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of self-rising flour and 1 cup of Greek yogurt.
- 3
Mix the two ingredients together and knead well until a smooth dough ball forms. This should not take very long as the dough is easy to work with.
- 4
Divide the dough into 4 equal parts.
- 5
Roll each part into a ball, then poke a hole in the middle and slowly stretch it into a bagel shape.
- 6
Place the shaped bagels on a baking sheet and brush the tops with egg wash.
- 7
Sprinkle your desired toppings, such as poppy seeds, over the egg-washed bagels.
- 8
Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes total.
- 9
Flip the baking pan halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.
- 10
For the last 5 to 10 minutes of baking, flip the bagels themselves over to allow them to cook through completely.
- 11
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve with your favorite bagel fillings.
Notes
If you do not have self-rising flour, you can make your own by adding 1 teaspoon of baking powder and a pinch of salt to 1 cup of all-purpose flour. The author notes this dough is easier to knead than pizza or tortilla dough.
