Chinese Home-Kitchen Recipes: Red Date and Goji Tea
A naturally sweet, caffeine-free infusion of dried red dates and goji berries, simmered and served with the softened fruit. The carousel also includes winter melon soup and tomato-and-egg over rice, but the first fully legible recipe is the tea.

Ingredients
- dried red dates (jujubes) (The OCR did not capture the quantity; rinse and score each date with a small slit down the side.)
- 1 tbsp dried goji berries (Rinse; add for the final 2 minutes of simmering.)
- 2 cups water
Steps
- 1
Rinse the red dates and goji berries. Cut a small slit down the side of each date so the water can reach the flesh.
- 2
Put the dates and water in a small pot. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until the water turns amber and the dates puff up.
- 3
Add the goji berries for the final 2 minutes of simmering; they soften quickly, so avoid boiling them longer.
- 4
Pour the tea into a glass with the fruit. Serve with the softened dates and goji berries to eat; the source notes the drink is sweet enough without added sugar.
Notes
The source lists the dates without a readable quantity. It recommends deep red, wrinkled dates that are still a little soft, and says the same fruit is often refilled with hot water through the day; later cups are lighter. The carousel also shows two additional recipes, but their OCR ingredient quantities are incomplete or ambiguous, so they are not combined into this recipe.
