Ingredients
- 6 medium apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
- 50 g light brown sugar (for the apples)
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp plain flour (for the apples)
- 200 g plain flour (for the crumble topping)
- 125 g unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- 100 g light brown sugar (for the crumble topping)
- 50 g oats
Steps
- 1
Peel and chop the apples, removing and discarding the cores.
- 2
Put the apples in a pan. Add the 50 g light brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon plain flour.
- 3
Cook the apples for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened but still slightly firm; they will continue cooking in the oven, so do not let them turn soggy.
- 4
While the apples soften, make the crumble topping. Put the 200 g plain flour and cold cubed butter in a bowl. Rub and press the butter into the flour with clean hands until it resembles breadcrumbs, leaving some larger crumbly pieces.
- 5
Add the 100 g light brown sugar and stir it through the flour-and-butter mixture.
- 6
Add the oats and mix them through the crumble topping.
- 7
Put the softened apples into an ovenproof dish, then distribute the crumble topping over the apples.
- 8
Bake at 160°C for 35–40 minutes.
- 9
Serve the apple crumble hot. The creator serves it with homemade custard.
Notes
The creator says the baking dish was too large, leaving a thinner layer of apples and crumble than intended. Homemade custard is served alongside, but its recipe is not provided in this source.
