Ingredients
- 1 cup water (warm to about 110°F)
- 0.25 cup milk (warm to about 110°F)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
- 3.33 cup bread flour (Use 1 cup at first, then add the remaining 2⅓ cups.)
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp butter
Steps
- 1
Warm 1 cup of water and ¼ cup of milk to about 110°F. Combine them in a bowl.
- 2
Add the sugar and yeast to the warm liquid. Set the mixture aside for about 5 minutes.
- 3
In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of the bread flour with the salt and butter.
- 4
Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir.
- 5
Add the remaining 2⅓ cups of bread flour and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- 6
Turn the dough out onto a clean countertop. Knead it by hand until it comes together and looks smooth.
- 7
Place the dough in a bowl and turn it to coat. Cover and let it rise on the countertop for about 2 hours.
- 8
Turn the risen dough out and roll it into a rectangle about as wide as your loaf pan (the creator refers to an 8-inch width).
- 9
Roll the rectangle up into a loaf shape and place it in the loaf pan.
- 10
Cover with the same plastic wrap and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- 11
Move the oven rack to a lower position and preheat the oven to 350°F.
- 12
Bake the loaf for about 32–35 minutes.
- 13
Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes, then remove it and let it cool completely before slicing.
