Ingredients
- 1.25 cup warm milk (No hotter than 110°F (43°C))
- 0.333 cup granulated sugar
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast (Or 1 packet)
- 0.25 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg (Room temperature)
- 3.5 cup bread flour (Fluff before measuring; do not pack into the cup)
- 0.5 tsp salt
- oil spray (A little, for greasing the bowl and cookie sheet)
- 2 sticks salted butter, softened (Room temperature)
- 0.333 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.25 cup honey
- butter, melted (Optional, for brushing the rolls)
Steps
- 1
Warm the milk to no hotter than 110°F (43°C). Add the sugar and active dry yeast, stir well, and set aside for 5–10 minutes, until a foamy layer forms on top.
- 2
Add the melted butter to the foamy yeast mixture. Add the room-temperature egg and whisk to break it up and combine.
- 3
In a large bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 4
Turn the dough onto a clean work surface. Knead for 5–8 minutes, continuing to work the sticky dough without adding extra flour, until it forms a smooth ball that stretches without tearing.
- 5
Spray a little oil into a bowl. Put the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat, and cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place for 1½–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 6
Gently press down the center of the risen dough to deflate it, then transfer it to a clean surface and gently press it out.
- 7
Roll the dough into a large rectangle about ½ inch thick, using a rolling pin if desired and taking care not to press out too much air.
- 8
Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into equal pieces; the batch should yield about 32 rolls.
- 9
Spray a cookie sheet with oil. Set the dough pieces on the greased sheet, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes while the oven preheats to 350°F (175°C).
- 10
Bake the rolls at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, until puffed and baked through.
- 11
While the rolls bake, combine the softened salted butter, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and honey. Mix until fluffy and airy, about 2 minutes.
- 12
If desired, brush the tops of the baked rolls with melted butter. Serve the rolls with the cinnamon-honey butter.
Notes
The source does not specify a detailed oven-preheating point or precise rise location beyond a warm place. The optional melted-butter brushing quantity is not stated.
