Ingredients

  • 115 g unsalted butter (melted)
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs (large, room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 50 g cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 65 g all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 100 g semi-sweet chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate bars)

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Whisk vigorously for 1-2 minutes until well combined and slightly pale.

  3. 3

Add the eggs one at a time, whisking thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 4

Sift in the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula until just combined; do not overmix.

  5. 5

Fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate pieces.

  6. 6

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  7. 7

Bake for 20-25 minutes. The center should still be slightly soft to the touch, and a toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs.

  8. 8

Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing to ensure a fudgy texture.

Notes

For an extra crackly top, ensure you whisk the sugar and eggs very well to dissolve the sugar. You can add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top before serving.
