Ingredients
- 2 shallots (thinly sliced)
- 5 garlic cloves (fresh, minced)
- 2 tbsp chili crisp (plus extra for serving)
- 1 cup cream or coconut milk (room temperature; choose either cream or coconut milk)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce (optional)
- 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese (fresh, grated; plus extra for serving)
- 8 oz pasta (of your choice)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt (plus salt for the pasta water)
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp oregano
- pasta water (reserved as needed)
- parsley (for serving, optional)
Steps
- 1
Slice the shallots thinly and measure out the seasonings. Bring the cream or coconut milk to room temperature so it blends smoothly later.
- 2
Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- 3
Add the sliced shallots and sauté for 8–10 minutes, until soft and starting to turn golden.
- 4
While the shallots cook, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- 5
Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook until al dente. Drain it, reserving some pasta water.
- 6
When the shallots are soft, add the minced garlic and all the seasonings. Stir and let them bloom for about 1 minute.
- 7
Add the chili crisp and sauté briefly.
- 8
Pour in the cream or coconut milk. Add the soy sauce if using, and let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until thickened.
- 9
Add the grated Parmesan and stir it into the sauce.
- 10
Add the drained pasta and toss until fully coated, adding splashes of reserved pasta water as needed for a silky consistency.
- 11
Serve hot with an extra spoonful of chili crisp, a sprinkle of Parmesan, and parsley if desired.
Notes
The source does not specify the amount of salt for the pasta water or the amount of extra chili crisp, Parmesan, or parsley for serving. Chicken, shrimp, or tofu are suggested as optional additions, but no quantities or method are provided.
