Ingredients

  • 1 Beef flank (Cut into strips; amount is unclear in the OCR, which reads “beef flank.”)
  • Cornstarch (Listed for the beef marinade; quantity illegible in OCR.)
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper (Also season to taste at the end, as shown in the source.)
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce (For the marinade; a separate 1/4 cup is listed for the sauce.)
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce (For the sauce.)
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar (For the sauce.)
  • 0.25 cup Water or beef broth (OCR reads “1/4 cup (60 ml) water (or beef broth)”; choose one.)
  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil (For cooking; the OCR reads “1 oil (for cooking),” with the unit illegible.)
  • 3 cups Broccoli florets
  • 4 cloves Garlic (Minced; OCR indicates adding to the pan for about 30 seconds.)
  • Black pepper (To taste, for finishing.)
  • Steamed rice (For serving; quantity not stated.)

Steps

  1. 1

Cut the flank beef into strips if it is not already prepared. In a bowl, combine the beef, cornstarch, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Mix well and marinate for at least 10 minutes; the OCR appears to show “10–45 minutes,” but the range is unclear.

  2. 2

In a separate bowl, mix the 1/4 cup soy sauce, brown sugar, and water or beef broth. Set the sauce aside.

  3. 3

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan or wok. Stir-fry the marinated beef until browned, then remove it from the pan and set aside.

  4. 4

Add a little more oil to the pan if needed. Add the garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds.

  5. 5

Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes, until bright green and tender-crisp.

  6. 6

Return the beef to the pan and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir well, then cook for 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens.

  7. 7

Taste and add black pepper if needed. Serve with steamed rice.

Notes

The slideshow OCR is incomplete: the beef quantity and cornstarch amount are not legible, and the cooking-oil unit is unclear. The source gives no rice quantity. It describes the recipe as taking 25 minutes and lists 4 servings.
