- 1 tsp Salt (for marinade)
- 1 tbsp Black pepper (for marinade)
- 1 tbsp Garlic powder (for marinade)
- 1 tbsp Onion powder (for marinade)
- 1 tbsp Chicken or beef bouillon (for marinade)
- 2 cloves Minced garlic (for marinade)
- 1 tsp Ginger paste (for marinade)
- 3 tbsp Soy sauce (for marinade)
- 2 tbsp Sugar (for marinade)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (for marinade)
- 1 tbsp Rice vinegar (for marinade)
- 1 tsp Baking soda (helps tenderize meat)
- 2 tbsp Avocado oil (for searing steak)
- 0.25 cup Beef broth (for sauce)
- 2 tbsp Soy sauce (for sauce)
- 1 tbsp Cornstarch (for sauce)
- 1 tsp Black pepper (for sauce)
- 1.5 tbsp Sugar (for sauce; 1-2 tbsp per recipe)
Steps
- 1
Thinly slice your preferred cut of steak (top sirloin recommended) and cut them into strips.
- 2
In a large bowl, combine the steak strips with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, bouillon, minced garlic, ginger paste, soy sauce, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, rice vinegar, and baking soda. Mix thoroughly to coat.
- 3
Let the steak marinate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate and the baking soda to tenderize the meat.
- 4
While the steak is marinating, chop the onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Slice the green onions, keeping the white bottoms and green tops separate.
- 5
In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, cornstarch, black pepper, and sugar to create the finishing sauce.
- 6
Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated steak in batches if necessary and cook until a nice crust forms on each side. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
- 7
In the same skillet, add the chopped onions, red and green bell peppers, and the white bottoms of the green onions. Sauté until they begin to soften.
- 8
Pour the prepared sauce mixture into the skillet with the vegetables.
- 9
Add the green tops of the onions and return the cooked steak to the pan.
- 10
Let the mixture simmer and reduce until the sauce thickens and coats everything beautifully. Serve over white rice.
Notes
Baking soda is the key ingredient for 'velveting' the meat, making it extremely tender. Serve over steamed white rice for a complete meal.
