Ingredients
- 7 Eggs (large)
- 2 tbsp Rice Vinegar (estimated from cost and visual)
- 0.25 cup Soy Sauce (Kikkoman brand recommended; estimated from cost and visual)
- 1 tbsp Chili Crisps (or chili oil; estimated from cost and visual)
- 2 tbsp Fried Red Onion (crushed into small bits)
- 1 tsp Artificial Sweetener (estimated from cost and visual)
- 0.5 cup Water (enough to submerge the eggs in the marinade)
Steps
- 1
Select a container that can comfortably fit 6-7 eggs and set it aside.
- 2
Fill a pot with enough water to fully submerge the eggs. Bring the water to a boil over maximum heat.
- 3
Carefully lower the eggs into the boiling water, taking care not to crack the shells.
- 4
Set a timer and boil the eggs for exactly 6 and a half minutes for a soft-boiled consistency.
- 5
Prepare an ice bath or a bowl of very cold water. Once the timer goes off, immediately transfer the eggs to the cold water to stop the cooking process.
- 6
Once cooled, peel the eggs. The temperature shock should make them easier to peel.
- 7
Place the peeled eggs into your prepared container.
- 8
Add the rice vinegar, soy sauce, and chili crisps (or chili oil) to the container.
- 9
Crush the fried red onions in your hand into smaller bits and add them to the container.
- 10
Add the artificial sweetener and enough water to ensure the eggs are completely submerged in the liquid.
- 11
Cover and marinate for 30 minutes to an hour before serving.
Notes
The author notes that these eggs are highly addictive. For the best results, ensure the water in the pot is deep enough to cover the eggs entirely during boiling to avoid undercooked tops. The marinade can be adjusted to taste, and the eggs can be marinated longer if desired.
