Ingredients
- 1 lb shrimp (peeled, deveined, and chopped)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp paprika
- salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 20 wonton wrappers or empanada discs
- 1 egg (beaten, for sealing)
- vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)
Steps
- 1
In a medium bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- 2
Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste and mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- 3
Place a tablespoon of the shrimp and cheese mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper or empanada disc.
- 4
Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg.
- 5
Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges firmly to seal the bites.
- 6
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 7
Fry the filled bites in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until they are deep golden brown and crispy.
- 8
Remove the bites from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess grease.
- 9
Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley and serve immediately while hot.
Notes
Ensure the cream cheese is well-softened for easier mixing. You can use small empanada discs for a more rustic style or wonton wrappers for a lighter, crispier finish.
