Ingredients
- 1 box brownie mix (Prepare according to the package directions; the source package used 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons water, and 2/3 cup vegetable oil.)
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp water (Use the amount called for by the brownie mix package.)
- 0.667 cup vegetable oil (Use the amount called for by the brownie mix package.)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (Mini chocolate chips were used; regular-size chips may also be used.)
- 2 tbsp butter (Melt in the microwave.)
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs (Prepared graham-cracker crumbs or crushed graham crackers may be used.)
- 1 bar chocolate bar (Use one regular-size bar of the chocolate of your choice; the source used a Hershey’s bar, broken into pieces.)
- 2 cups mini marshmallows (Add during the final 10–15 minutes of cooking.)
Steps
- 1
In a separate bowl, prepare one box of brownie mix according to the package directions. For the mix used in the source, add 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons of water, and 2/3 cup of vegetable oil, then mix until combined.
- 2
Add 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips to the brownie batter. Stir them in evenly; mini or regular-size chips may be used.
- 3
Transfer the brownie mixture to a 6-quart Crock-Pot and spread it into an even layer.
- 4
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the microwave.
- 5
Add the melted butter to 1 cup of graham cracker crumbs and mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.
- 6
Sprinkle the buttered graham cracker crumbs evenly over the brownie mixture.
- 7
Break one regular-size chocolate bar into pieces and place the pieces over the graham-cracker layer.
- 8
Lay paper towels over the top of the Crock-Pot before putting on the lid. The paper towels absorb moisture and help the brownies cook through. If they become soaked during cooking, replace them.
- 9
Cover with the lid and cook on high for 1–2 hours or on low for 3–4 hours.
- 10
During the final 10–15 minutes of cooking, scatter 2 cups of mini marshmallows evenly over the top. The source cooked on high during this final period.
- 11
When finished, serve the brownie pie while the chocolate is still somewhat gooey; the texture is intended to resemble a lava cake.
Notes
The source does not specify an exact Crock-Pot cooking time within the stated ranges or provide a doneness test. The finished dessert is intentionally gooey and lava-cake-like. Do not allow the paper towels to contact the heating element; replace them if they become soaked.
