Ingredients

  • 2 English sausages (high-quality pork sausages)
  • 2 slices Back bacon
  • 2 Eggs (typically fried sunny-side up)
  • 2 slices Black pudding
  • 0.5 cup Baked beans (canned, warmed)
  • 1 Tomato (halved and grilled)
  • 0.5 cup Mushrooms (sliced and sautéed)
  • 2 slices White bread (for frying)
  • 1 tbsp Butter (for frying bread and eggs)
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil (for frying meats)

Steps

  1. 1

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat with a small amount of oil. Add the sausages first, as they take the longest to cook, turning occasionally until browned and cooked through (about 10-12 minutes).

  2. 2

Add the back bacon and black pudding slices to the skillet. Fry the bacon until the edges are crispy and the black pudding until it is heated through and slightly crisp on the outside (about 3-4 minutes per side).

  3. 3

In a separate small pan or a clear space on the griddle, sauté the sliced mushrooms and the halved tomato (cut-side down) until softened and slightly charred.

  4. 4

Warm the baked beans in a small saucepan over low heat until simmering.

  5. 5

Fry the bread in the rendered fat from the meats or additional butter until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

  6. 6

Finally, fry the eggs in butter or oil until the whites are set but the yolks remain runny.

  7. 7

Plate all components together immediately, ensuring everything is served hot. Pair with a strong cup of English breakfast tea.

Notes

A proper Full English is often served with 'brown sauce' (HP Sauce) or ketchup. The key to a great fry-up is timing the components so they all finish at the same time.
