Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry (thawed (usually contains 2 sheets))
- 8 oz cream cheese (very softened)
- 3 jalapeños (finely diced, plus extra slices for topping)
- 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded, divided)
- 4 slices bacon (cooked and crumbled)
- 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
- ranch dressing (for dipping)
Steps
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
Unroll one sheet of thawed puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface.
- 3
Spread a generous, even layer of very softened cream cheese across the entire surface of the puff pastry sheet.
- 4
Sprinkle the finely diced jalapeños, crumbled bacon, and about half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the cream cheese layer.
- 5
Place the second sheet of puff pastry directly on top of the fillings to create a sandwich.
- 6
Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the pastry into strips about 1 inch wide.
- 7
Pick up each strip and twist it several times before placing it onto the prepared baking sheet.
- 8
Brush the tops of the twists with the beaten egg wash.
- 9
Top the twists with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese and a few extra jalapeño slices for color and extra crispiness.
- 10
Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and deep golden brown and the cheese is crispy.
- 11
Serve warm with a side of ranch dressing for dipping.
Notes
Ensure the cream cheese is very soft to avoid tearing the puff pastry while spreading. You can substitute the jalapeños with pickled jalapeños for a tangier flavor. For a sweeter variation, the author suggests using blackberry and goat cheese.
