Ingredients
- 3 burger buns (Cut each bun in half; gently remove some of the soft center to create pockets.)
- 3 cheese slices (Use 3–6 slices, inserting at least one slice into each bun pocket.)
- 1 cup boiled sweet corn
- 0.25 cup onion (Chopped.)
- 0.25 cup green capsicum (Chopped; also known as green bell pepper.)
- 1 tbsp cream cheese
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp chilli flakes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- salt (To taste.)
- grated mozzarella cheese (Use plenty for topping; estimated amount is approximately 60 g.)
- marinara sauce (Optional, for serving.)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F), or prepare an air fryer at 180°C. Line a baking tray with parchment if baking.
- 2
Cut each burger bun in half. Using your fingers or a small spoon, gently remove some of the soft center from each half, taking care not to cut through the crust, so that each piece forms a pocket.
- 3
Arrange the hollowed bun halves on the prepared baking tray or in the air-fryer basket.
- 4
Insert a cheese slice into each bun pocket. If using smaller slices, use enough to cover the inside of the pockets; the source suggests 3–6 slices total.
- 5
Place the boiled sweet corn in a mixing bowl.
- 6
Add the chopped onion, chopped green capsicum, cream cheese, mayonnaise, chilli flakes, oregano, and salt to the bowl.
- 7
Mix thoroughly until the vegetables and corn are evenly coated in the creamy mixture.
- 8
Generously spoon the corn mixture into each cheese-lined bun pocket, dividing it evenly among the six bun halves.
- 9
Top the filled buns with plenty of grated mozzarella cheese.
- 10
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 8–12 minutes, or air-fry at 180°C for 5–8 minutes, until the buns are crisp and the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
- 11
Serve hot, either with marinara sauce for dipping or on their own.
Notes
The recipe uses leftover burger buns effectively. Watch closely near the end of cooking, especially in an air fryer, because the buns can brown quickly. The amount of grated mozzarella is not specified in the source and is estimated here for nutrition purposes.
