Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 4 tbsp Soy sauce (4T)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar (2T)
  • 2 tbsp Green onion (minced; 2T)
  • 2 tbsp Garlic (minced; 2T)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil (1T)
  • Black pepper (to taste)
  • Rice cake (optional but recommended; small pieces for filling)

Steps

  1. 1

In a small bowl, mix all ingredients except the ground beef together (soy sauce, sugar, minced green onion, minced garlic, sesame oil, and pepper).

  2. 2

Put 2-3 tablespoons of the marinade mixture aside to use for brushing later.

  3. 3

Mix the remaining marinade well into the ground beef.

  4. 4

Form the meat into 4 equal-sized patties, placing small pieces of rice cake inside the center of each patty, or make smaller bite-sized balls with a rice cake in the middle.

  5. 5

Heat a pan over medium-low heat. Add the patties and cook slowly.

  6. 6

While cooking, brush the reserved marinade mixture onto the patties.

  7. 7

Continue cooking until the meat is cooked through and the outside is caramelized, being careful not to burn the sugar in the sauce.

  8. 8

    Plate and enjoy!

Notes

Don’t mix everything (meat and marinade) to begin with as this may make the mixture too wet to work with. Cook on low to medium heat as the sugar content in the marinade will burn quickly.
