Ingredients
- 4 racks baby back ribs (cleaned, fat trimmed, and membrane removed)
- 1.5 cup white sugar
- 0.25 cup salt (can be reduced if sensitive to salt)
- 2.5 tbsp ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1.5 cup BBQ Sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's recommended)
Steps
- 1
Clean ribs, trim any excess fat and remove the membrane from the back of the ribs.
- 2
In a medium bowl, combine the white sugar, salt, ground black pepper, paprika, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well to create the dry rub.
- 3
Coat each rack of ribs on the top and bottom with the dry rub mixture, massaging it in so it is evenly and well coated.
- 4
Stack the ribs in a large foil roasting pan and cover tightly with foil. Let them sit in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 8 hours.
- 5
Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).
- 6
Bake the ribs, still covered with foil, for 3-4 hours. They are done when they are tender and start to fall apart when prodded with a fork (internal temperature should be at least 165°F).
- 7
When tender, remove the ribs from the oven. Preheat your BBQ grill to medium heat.
- 8
Place the ribs on the grill for a few minutes per side, basting generously with BBQ sauce. Be careful not to leave them too long, as the sugar in the sauce can burn quickly.
- 9
Remove from the barbecue and serve immediately.
Notes
If you don't have a grill, you can finish the ribs in the oven. Turn the oven to broil and broil the sauced ribs for 5 minutes per side until the sauce is charred and bubbly. To test for doneness, use tongs to pull a rib away from the rack; if it tears away easily, they are ready.
