Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion (diced)
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup long grain white rice (uncooked)
- 2 cup beef broth
- 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
Steps
- 1
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef with the diced onion, breaking the meat apart as it cooks.
- 2
Once the beef is fully cooked, drain any excess grease from the skillet.
- 3
Season the beef and onion mixture with 0.5 tsp salt, 0.5 tsp pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp onion powder.
- 4
Add 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce and 1 cup of uncooked long grain white rice to the skillet.
- 5
Stir the mixture well to combine and lightly toast the rice for about 1-2 minutes.
- 6
Pour in 2 cups of beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
- 7
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet with a lid, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- 8
Remove the lid and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
- 9
Place the lid back on for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
You can customize this dish by adding typical burger toppings like diced pickles, mustard, or a drizzle of ketchup before serving. For a leaner version, use ground turkey instead of beef.
