Ingredients
- 3 oz beef (thinly sliced)
- 0.5 tbsp oyster sauce (for marinade)
- 0.5 tbsp soy sauce (for marinade)
- 0.5 tbsp sesame oil (for marinade)
- 0.25 tsp white pepper
- baking soda (a pinch, used for tenderizing the beef)
- 1 clove garlic (minced (from transcript))
- sugar (optional, to taste)
- 0.75 cup jasmine rice (uncooked)
- 1 cup water (adjust based on rice type)
- 3 oz broccoli (cut into small florets)
- toasted white sesame seeds (for garnish)
Steps
- 1
In a small bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, white pepper, a pinch of baking soda, minced garlic, and sugar (if using). Mix well to coat the beef and set aside to marinade.
- 2
Rinse the jasmine rice until the water runs clear (about three times).
- 3
Add the rinsed rice and 1 cup of water to the rice cooker inner pot.
- 4
Close the lid and start the cooking cycle.
- 5
After the rice has been cooking for about 12-13 minutes (or when the water is mostly absorbed but the rice is not yet fully done), open the lid.
- 6
Place the broccoli florets and the marinated beef on top of the cooking rice in an even layer.
- 7
Close the lid and let the rice cooker finish its cycle, which will steam the beef and broccoli.
- 8
Once the rice cooker switches to 'Keep Warm', open the lid and serve immediately, topped with toasted white sesame seeds.
Notes
The water to rice ratio may differ depending on the kind of rice you use. Cooking times may also differ depending on your rice cooker model. This recipe was developed using a 2-cup uncooked capacity rice cooker.
