Ingredients
- 400 g Ground beef
- 2 Sausages
- 150 g Bread
- 150 ml Milk
- 50 g Grated cheese
- 400 ml Beer
- 3 Onions (Finely chopped)
- Sweet paprika (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Flour (as needed, for dusting)
- Butter (as needed, for browning)
- 1 cucchiaio Tomato paste
- Sparkling water (a splash, optional, to make the meatballs more tender)
- 1 foglia Bay leaf
Steps
- 1
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, sausages, bread soaked in milk, grated cheese, sweet paprika, salt, and pepper. If you want more tender meatballs, add a splash of sparkling water. Shape into medium-sized meatballs—not too large or too small.
- 2
Lightly coat the meatballs in flour.
- 3
Melt a knob of butter in a pan and brown the meatballs until golden all over. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
- 4
In the same pan, soften the finely chopped onions with a bay leaf.
- 5
Add 1 tablespoon of tomato paste.
- 6
Return the meatballs to the pan and pour in enough beer to cover them.
- 7
Cover the pan and simmer gently for at least 20 minutes.
- 8
Remove the lid and cook for another 5 minutes, until the sauce has reduced.
- 9
Serve the meatballs once they are ready.
Notes
The method says to add the onions with a bay leaf; bay leaf was not listed in the original ingredients and has been included based on the method. The sparkling water is optional, and no precise quantity is given.
