Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp honey (can substitute with sugar)
- 3 cup all purpose flour (up to 3 1/2 cups as needed)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (plus extra for greasing and brushing)
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp salt
- Italian seasoning (to taste)
- cheddar cheese (shredded, to taste)
- parmesan cheese (grated, to taste)
Steps
- 1
In a small bowl, combine 1 cup warm water (110°F), 2 teaspoons active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon honey. Whisk together and let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In a mixing bowl, add 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 egg, and 2 teaspoons salt.
- 3
Pour the yeast mixture into the mixing bowl with the flour and other ingredients.
- 4
Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add up to an additional 1/2 cup of flour.
- 5
Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour to rise.
- 6
After 1 hour, punch the air out of the dough and transfer it to a work surface.
- 7
Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces.
- 8
To shape the rolls, roll each piece into a rectangle, then roll it up tightly and tuck the ends in.
- 9
Place the shaped rolls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
- 10
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 11
Score the top of each roll with a sharp knife. Brush the tops with olive oil.
- 12
Sprinkle the rolls with Italian seasoning and a mixture of shredded cheddar and parmesan cheese to taste.
- 13
Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Notes
To make a sandwich like the video: slice the baked roll, add turkey and provolone, and broil for about 1 minute. Top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, banana peppers, and spicy mayo.
