Ingredients

  • 200 g flour (all-purpose flour)
  • 5 eggs (large eggs)
  • 30 ml olive oil (olive oil)
  • 600 ml milk (milk)
  • green onions (a few leaves, chopped)
  • 320 g cascaval cheese (semi-hard yellow cheese, divided)
  • 200 g ham (ham, sliced or chopped)

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a large baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, eggs, and olive oil. Mix until a thick paste forms.

  3. 3

Gradually add the milk and the chopped green onion leaves to the bowl. Whisk thoroughly until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the batter is smooth.

  4. 4

Pour the batter into the prepared baking tray, spreading it evenly to the edges.

  5. 5

Place the tray in the oven and bake at 180°C for 10 minutes to allow the base to set.

  6. 6

Remove the tray from the oven. Sprinkle half of the cascaval cheese over the surface, followed by a layer of ham, and then the remaining cascaval.

  7. 7

Return the tray to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the edges are golden brown.

  8. 8

    Serve warm.

Notes

Cașcaval is a traditional Romanian semi-hard cheese; you can substitute it with Gouda, Edam, or mild Cheddar if unavailable.
