Ingredients
- 6 tbsp Salted butter
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 2 tsp Baking powder
- 0.25 tsp Kosher salt
- 1 cup Buttermilk or whole milk (Use either buttermilk or whole milk.)
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 2 cups Blackberries (Fresh or frozen.)
- 1 tbsp Fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp Lemon zest (Optional.)
- 1.5 tbsp Granulated sugar (For topping; source specifies 1–2 tablespoons.)
- Vanilla ice cream (Optional, for serving; source gives no amount.)
- Whipped cream (Optional, for serving; source gives no amount.)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
Place the salted butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and put the dish in the oven until the butter melts.
- 3
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and kosher salt.
- 4
Add the buttermilk or whole milk and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until a smooth batter forms.
- 5
In a separate bowl, toss the blackberries with the lemon juice and, if using, the lemon zest.
- 6
Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
- 7
Distribute the blackberry mixture evenly over the batter, then sprinkle the topping sugar over the berries.
- 8
Bake for 40–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- 9
Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving warm, with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
The creator also describes two alternative methods: melt the butter separately and add it to the batter, or place the blackberries in the baking dish first and pour the batter over them. These can produce a slightly different texture and crust. The video description says the creator uses the berries-first method, while the written numbered instructions specify melting butter in the dish and pouring batter over it; follow either method, but do not stir after layering. The topping sugar amount is given as a range of 1–2 tablespoons. Optional serving accompaniments have no specified quantities.
