Ingredients

  • 12 frozen dumplings (any variety (pork, vegetable, or chicken))
  • 1 bunch kale (stems removed, leaves chopped)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger (minced or grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (for searing)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (to finish)
  • 1 tsp vinegar (rice vinegar or similar)

Steps

  1. 1

Heat a tablespoon of neutral oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

Place the frozen dumplings in the skillet and sear them until the bottoms are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 3

Push the dumplings to the side or remove them briefly. Add the chopped kale, minced ginger, and minced garlic to the pan.

  4. 4

Sauté the kale mixture until the greens begin to wilt and the aromatics are fragrant.

  5. 5

Place the dumplings back on top of the greens. Add a splash of water to the pan and immediately cover with a lid.

  6. 6

Steam for a few minutes until the dumplings are cooked through and the kale is tender.

  7. 7

Remove the lid and drizzle with soy sauce and vinegar to brighten the flavors before serving.

Notes

You can use any type of frozen dumpling (potstickers, gyoza, or mandu). If the kale is very tough, you may need an extra minute of steaming.
