Ingredients
- 1 cup Cooked white rice (Warm or at room temperature)
- 0.5 cup Kimchi (Chopped or roughly cut)
- 4 Raw marinated crab (Gejang; use only crab prepared and labeled for raw consumption, and remove the meat from the shells. The transcript suggests about four crabs but does not give a precise amount.)
- 2 Eggs (Cooked to preference; fried or soft-cooked eggs work well)
- Black pepper (To taste)
- 1 tbsp Kewpie mayonnaise (Use more or less to taste)
- 1 tsp Sesame oil (For finishing)
- 1 tsp Sesame seeds (For topping)
- 1 tbsp Gejang marinade sauce (Spicy sauce from the marinated crab; add more if desired)
- 1 sheet Gim (Korean roasted seaweed) (Torn or crumbled over the bowl)
- 0.5 Avocado (Sliced or cubed)
Steps
- 1
Place the warm rice in a large serving bowl. Have kitchen scissors, a spoon, and a food-safe glove ready for handling the crab.
- 2
Add the kimchi to the rice and mix lightly so it is distributed through the bowl.
- 3
Wearing a clean food-safe glove, squeeze the raw marinated crab over the bowl to release the meat and juices. Pick through the crab carefully and add as much crab meat as possible to the rice. Discard shells and any hard fragments.
- 4
Cook two eggs in a skillet to your preferred doneness. Soft or runny yolks are especially suitable for mixing into bibimbap, but cook the eggs fully if preferred.
- 5
Add the cooked eggs to the bowl and season with black pepper.
- 6
Drizzle the Kewpie mayonnaise over the rice, crab, kimchi, and eggs.
- 7
Finish the bowl with sesame oil and sesame seeds.
- 8
Taste the bibimbap and add gejang marinade sauce for additional salt, spice, and flavor. Mix thoroughly, breaking the egg yolks so they coat the rice.
- 9
Top with torn gim and sliced or cubed avocado. Serve immediately with a spoon.
Notes
Raw crab is a high-risk ingredient. Use commercially prepared gejang from a reputable source that is specifically intended to be eaten raw, keep it refrigerated, avoid cross-contamination, and consume promptly. Do not serve raw crab to pregnant people, young children, older adults, or anyone immunocompromised. The transcript does not provide exact quantities for most ingredients, so those amounts are practical estimates.
