Ingredients
- 0.5 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 0.5 cup Maple syrup
- 0.5 cup Water
- 1.5 tsp Vanilla extract (Use 1–2 teaspoons, to taste.)
- Salt (A pinch, to taste.)
Steps
- 1
Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup, and water to a small saucepan. Whisk until the cocoa is mostly dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- 2
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, whisking frequently so the cocoa does not settle or scorch.
- 3
Continue simmering and whisking for about 5–7 minutes, until the syrup thickens slightly and looks glossy and smooth. Do not let it reach a vigorous boil.
- 4
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, then whisk thoroughly to combine.
- 5
Let the syrup cool for a few minutes; it will thicken further as it cools. Use it warm or transfer it to a clean airtight jar and refrigerate.
Notes
The recipe is described as dairy-free and naturally sweetened with maple syrup. Refrigerate in an airtight container; the syrup will become thicker when chilled. Stir before using. Serve in chocolate milk or drizzle over ice cream, pancakes, and waffles.
