Ingredients
- 1 pck chestnuts (peeled and cooked, approximately 100g)
- 0.75 cup milk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- vanilla extract (a splash)
- salt (a pinch)
- 3 tbsp mascarpone (can substitute with cream cheese)
- 0.33 cup whipping cream (heavy cream)
- 6 plain tea biscuits (generic biscuits or ladyfingers)
- instant coffee or espresso (prepared for dunking biscuits)
- bittersweet chocolate (for topping shavings)
Steps
- 1
In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, chestnuts, salt, and vanilla.
- 2
Heat the mixture over medium heat until the chestnuts are soft and have absorbed some of the liquid.
- 3
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool completely in the fridge.
- 4
Once cold, add the chestnut mixture to a blender along with the mascarpone. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth.
- 5
In a separate bowl, whip the whipping cream until soft peaks form.
- 6
Gently fold the cold chestnut mixture into the whipped cream until just combined.
- 7
Prepare two serving glasses for assembly.
- 8
Dunk your tea biscuits into the prepared coffee or espresso, ensuring they are soaked but not falling apart.
- 9
Starting with the chestnut cream, add a couple of spoonfuls to the bottom of each glass.
- 10
Add a layer of coffee-soaked biscuits, then alternate with more chestnut cream and biscuits until the glasses are full.
- 11
Smooth out the top surface and finish with bittersweet chocolate shavings.
- 12
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the cream to set.
Notes
This recipe is a shortcut version of the 'Chestnut Tiramisu' from the Netflix show Culinary Class Wars. Using pre-cooked chestnuts and tea biscuits makes it very accessible for home cooks.
